I like to think of myself as fairly tech savvy. I can work my way around most computer programs (though I do struggle a bit with Photoshop), setting up this blog was not all that difficult, heck... I can even write a bit of HTML! Yesterday, however, I signed up for Twitter and I feel like I've lost my savviness.
I'm curious... do you Twitter? What do you tweet about? I'm afraid that I could find Twitter somewhat addicting, so I'm going to move slowly. But I would love to know what you like about it. And of course... if you have any Twitter Tips I'd love to hear those too!
With the unexpected popularity of our recent Custard-Filled Cornbread, I thought I'd share another of my favorite corn meal recipes - Cornmeal Buttermilk Biscuits are basically the anti-Custard Filled Cornbread. Being a Cooking Light Recipe I feel less guilty reaching for seconds of these tender biscuits and the ease of assembly is a plus for busy weeknights. I like to bake mine just a little extra, giving the outside a bit more of a crunch, while keeping the inside soft and flaky.
Perfect along side a steamy bowl of chili, these biscuits are sure to make your day. Now... if I could only figure out how to Tweet about it...
Cornmeal Buttermilk Biscuits
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup cornmeal
1 1/2 tablespoons sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons chilled butter, cut into small pieces
1/2 cup low-fat buttermilk
Preheat oven to 450°.
Lightly spoon flour into a dry measuring cup; level with a knife. Combine flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl; cut in butter with a pastry blender or 2 knives until mixture resembles coarse meal. Add buttermilk; stir just until moist.
Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Pat dough into an 8 x 4-inch rectangle. Cut dough by making 1 lengthwise cut and 3 crosswise cuts to form 8 biscuits. Place biscuits, 1 inch apart, on an ungreased baking sheet.
Bake at 450° for 12 minutes or until golden. Serve biscuits warm or at room temperature.
Note: If we have leftovers, we simply refresh them in the toaster oven for a few minutes!

Interesting you should ask about Twitter. I signed up about a month ago and was feeling quite intimidated. For me, I obviously link my blog posts as well as reply to other folks that interest me. It seems like most people say things they would say on Facebook. What their doing, or what they think of a certain subject....etc. It's a great way to expose your site though and meet some really great people. Sorry for babbling so long:) The cornmeal biscuits look delicious!
ReplyDeleteI have no idea what you would want with Photoshop your photographs are phenomenal. I REALLY like the second photograph. That would be one of my top 5 faves from you!
ReplyDeleteI started a Twitter account but I don't tweet much but I should. I always forget that I have a twitter account but it's a great way to keep up with everyone!
See you on Twitter.
I agree with Dionne, your pictures are always fantastic. Don't worry about photoshop!
ReplyDeleteI don't actually have a Twitter account. I have never gotten into it. I feel like I wouldn't have anything to "tweet" about haha. Anyways, good luck with figuring that one out, I wish I had some words of wisdom...but I am fresh out on that one!
Your biscuit recipe is really yummy looking, I like that is is from Cooking Light. I am with you, I always feel less guilty when it comes from that website/cookbooks.
Wow those look delicious!!! I've been looking for a good biscuit recipe and I think I finally found it!
ReplyDeleteI am pretty new to twitter and don't have it completely figured out yet either. Haven't figured out the @someone and get a good bit of what seems like spam. Foodbuzz has a pretty neat function that you can send all updates to twitter though. I like that a lot.
ReplyDeleteAs far as the cornmeal biscuits they look really good! King of like a cross between cornbread ad biscuits.
so delicious!

These would go so well with the ham and beans I have in the crock pot right now... :D
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! These are my dad's favorite. He gets really mad when I make cornmeal biscuits...he likes them with his chili, then for dessert he dunks a biscuit in milk and sprinkles it with sugar!
ReplyDeleteThis cornbread looks delicious. I am in the mood for some chili so it looks like this is on the menu.
ReplyDeleteI have a twitter account but I mostly follow, not lead. I do rely a bit on my daughters to help me out with stuff on my computer, but only after I have made a good attempt and am so frustrated I can't stand it any longer. The only problem is that they fix the problem so quickly that I really don't learn anything from it . What can I say they are teenagers with busy lives.
I just clicked your little button on the side of you blog that says "tweet this" and it tells that me the tweet is too long. I am not sure how you are supposed to cut any letters out from a post and still get people heading in the right direction to find it.
Those biscuits looks delicious! I agree with ravienomnoms, you don't need photoshop, your photos are fabulous. I have a twitter account but only use to tweet my recipes. I think it helps to increase traffic to your site.
ReplyDeleteWell, I didn't have a lot of luck with cheddar thyme biscuits I tried to make on Thanksgiving, but I might gives these a try, as soon as I get some cornmeal. Your pictures are so amazing. Must be the new lights:)
ReplyDeleteI am a total sucker for cornbread so, these cornmeal buttermilk biscuits sound delightful! The chili next to it looks delicious, by the way :-) Welcome to Twitter, Kim! You'll get the hang of it soon enough. I Tweet certain things that amuse me or irk me as well as retweet Tweets I find worthy of RTing :-)
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of addictive. I think I could have a problem with these biscuits. Best of both worlds. Thanks for sharing the recipe.
ReplyDeleteTwitter can be addicting and overwhelming! It took me a few months to "get it". But I rarely signed in and didn't really interact with others (pre-blog). It was a pleasant surprise seeing you on my follower's list!!
ReplyDeleteOh and these biscuits look so fabulous! My children and husband loves both biscuits and cornbread! Hearing that these are healthy as well has me very excited to try these very soon!!! Thanks for sharing!
Fantastic biscuits - these look incredible! And they are healthy?!? Thank you!
ReplyDeleteNow I'm gonna go and find you on Twitter ;-)
I love the look of these biscuits. They definitely look addicting, which I have found Twitter not to be. I haven't really taken the time to make it a priority though and I definitely don't post day-by-day stuff; just blog related things.
ReplyDeleteThis cornmeal biscuits sound amazing!!! I love biscuits and anything with cornmeal in them.
ReplyDeleteI am on twitter (you can add me, my user name is monstroxity). I've been on it for a few years now, I think. It's a lot like facebook status updates!
This looks delicious! Chili and cornbread is one of my favorite winter meals - it's so cozy and comforting :)
ReplyDeleteThese biscuits look great....I have chili on the menu for later this week....good combo!
ReplyDeleteI do twitter and am still learning all about it, especially the lingo! I don't follow too many people right now or do I have too many followers...I just stopped following a couple because they would post more than 20 tweets in an hour and it was just too much....still learning though!
These biscuits sound fantastic! Biscuits? GOOOD. Cornmeal? GOOOOD. I'm sure they'll be husband-approved too. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm a BIG twitter fan. Been using it for various work-related accounts for years. I'm @rosytart. I like it - definitely a great way to grow a community.
this sounds so good!! i love cornmeal in pretty much anything! so this is a good deal for me. thank you for sharing this with us. have a great day.
ReplyDeleteI don't twitter, at all! I cannot even begin to want to... Oh well. I do, however, FB. And on my phone. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd I am going to try these biscuits! Yummm!!!
I do tweet. It is a little intimidating, but my kids are twenty somethings so they push me to promote my blog. :)
ReplyDeleteI love the look of these biscuits. I'm going to make them tomorrow since we're having chili and I have buttermilk in my fridge.
Those look DELISH. I love corn bread so much :)
ReplyDeleteAs for Twitter, I've been using it for a while, but there IS an adjustment period! When I first started, I just didn't "get it." But I stuck around and started following people and eventually I was a pro. That will happen for you too. And just in case you want to connect, my Personal account is @Trish1981 and my blog account is @Knackicity.
If you have Twitter question, feel free to ask :)
I have a twitter problem, haha. Seriously it's hard to step away from it. I'm always on twitter on my blackberry!
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy you made another cornbread recipe. Cornbread is one of my absolute favorites and I always get these random cravings for it. I love that you baked it a little longer so the outside would be crunchier, that's the best kind of cornbread! I must try your recipe, it sounds delicious. :)
whew, i thought I'm the only one that doesn't know how to tweet. I have a twitter account but use it just to tweet my post, I don't know how to tweet to other people :( Guess I have to come back to read the following comments, maybe someone really explains.
ReplyDeletei don't know why you think you need Photoshop, your photos are wonderful.
thanks for sharing these delicious cornbread biscuits. love the sound of them
Oh my goodness these look tasty. Your pictures look right out of Bon Apettite magazine!
ReplyDeleteTop 9!!! Congratulations.
ReplyDeleteI actually don't tweet that often (i'm @jennynoowyn), only when I have a new blog post or hear a great song that I want to share... I generally use Twitter as a short news feed, it's great for following people who you really look to for inspiration who recommend cool sites, music, articles etc...
ReplyDeleteBiscuits look great by the way!
Now I am going to have to make a pot of chili and trythese tonight what a perfect pair love these!
ReplyDeleteYummy biscuits and glad you are on Twitter! I don't use it as regularly as I should but it good for pushing out and getting bits of info quickly. Congrats on Top 9!
ReplyDeleteBest,
Veronica
Congratulations on the Top 9 today!
ReplyDeleteI'm a big buttermilk fan; I love it in particularly in biscuits and pancakes (I suppose that's pretty standard). Never thought of putting it in cornbread though; I'll have to try it out!
ReplyDeleteI use the Twitters...though I am not manic about it like some people. It's good for getting blogging updates out, though!
I've run out of ways to say congratulations....
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your top9 spot!! I knew these would make the list :) They look perfectly delicious!
ReplyDeleteGlad to see you're on Twitter, Kim. I'll be following you. :-) I didn't understand it at first either but now I also quite enjoy connecting with my blogger friends outside the comments sections of our respective sites. It's been fun. You'll get the hang of it very soon!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your top 9!
Hi Kim-I've been on Twitter for a few months now, and in the beginning, just followed, and tweeted, just about anything that I thought was worthwhile tweeting about...but of course, it has to be shortened to 140 characters...LOL...always went way over it. You can also copy and paste quotes, which I used to do, and it generated following from "spiritual" and "self help" groups. I only concentrate on the foodies now, but hardly every tweet.
ReplyDeleteOne good part about Twitter is, that you can find a lot of great businesses, shops, more food blogs, and really nice group of people!
Your corn biscuits, are such a nice change from corn muffins, delish!!!
Your photos are always beautiful and professional looking...love your blog stories, always.
BTW-Don't forget to check out my blog for a $50 gift certificate giveaway!
Congrats on top 9!! The cornbread sounds wonderful..the perfect comfort food to accompany a hearty soup or chili. Love it.
ReplyDeleteWelcome to twitter. I am notorious for misusing it and starting rumors - in fact, I just did yesterday with someone's birthday. I guess I haven't quite mastered it :-)
nice looking biscuits!
ReplyDeleteI just recently started using Twitter and have mostly posted recipes. Although I'm starting to put my random thoughts online as well!
ReplyDeleteGreat looking biscuits, I love that they are buttermilk and cornbread!
These biscuits look amazing! "Found" you on foodbuzz, now following your blog! (I haven't fully grasped Twitter either...twitter parties, hashtags, etc. A little beyond me right now!)
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the Top 9! Those biscuits look way too divine!! I am glad that you are now on twitter. It is actually quite fun and easy to learn, especially since they recently upgraded to the new format, I think.
ReplyDeleteI tried the cornmeal biscuits with the chili last night. Both were great. Had the left over biscuits with egg & ham frittata this morning. Thanks for 2 really good recipes.
ReplyDeleteNancy, I'm so glad you liked them!! You made my day!! =)
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this recipe! I made them for my family and they really liked them, and I linked to them over on my blog. Thanks again!
ReplyDeleteModified your recipe to include cheddar, bacon bits, and chives. I put it in my blog: http://frizbys.blogspot.com/2011/08/butter-is-better.html
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, were these biscuits phenomenal!
I wrote about these biscuits
ReplyDeletehere. They were just awesome, but didn't have the lift that yours did. Did I over handle them?
P.S. Thanks for sharing the recipe.
Hey Kim, I feel the same way about Twitter. I have had an account for so long now, but still can't figure out the what, when and how to do stuff! Hope I learn soon :)
