Frozen Chocolate Banana Lolipops - by Liv. And a giveaway!

Frozen Banana Pops, by Liv
Today Liv Life has a few special treats for you.  First of all, I would like to welcome our first Guest Poster, none other than the inspiration behind this blog, Liv (age 11)!  With the arrival of summer here in San Diego (full sun with temps finally rising over 80º and actually hitting 97º!!) Liv took the opportunity to put together some of her favorite things, bananas, chocolate, sprinkles and a stick.  MMM!

In addition, we have been approached by "the people" at the CSN Store to give away a $35 gift card (available to residents of the United States or Canada only) good at any of their many stores.  With Liv's Banana Pops looking so cheery, we couldn't help but combine the two events.  So now I will turn over the keyboard to Liv and we will finish up about the give away at the bottom.

-----------------------------------------------

It was a hot summer day in September and I was seeking a cold, yummy treat.  Of course it had to have sugar in it.  I’ve loved sugar since, well, forever!  I even remember one time when I was a little girl and I was at a Girl Scout meeting and my mom was the leader.  We were going around saying what our favorite food was, "Mine is pasta.” said my friend.  "Mine is pizza."  said my other friend.  Then it was my turn and I said, "Mine is sugar!"  and I didn’t mean in candy, no.   I meant sugar, pure sugar!

So for this hot summer day in fall, I decided to make Frozen Chocolate Covered Banana Lollipops with sprinkles (of course).  Luckily we had two perfect bananas.  I peeled them and cut them into chunks.  Then I chopped milk chocolate and melted it.   I put a lollipop stick in each chunk and dipped it into the chocolate!  And for the grand finale I dipped the chocolate covered banana chunks in sprinkles!!!!!  After that, we froze them and finally ate them!!  They were sugarlicous!!!!!!!!!!:D

-----------------------------------------------
Now for the $45 Giftcard Giveaway!!  I'm sure many of you are already familiar with the CSN Stores, but for those of you who are not, CSN is a network of stores with products covering all ends of the spectrum.  From end tables to game rooms to patio and garden, and of course, kitchen and cooking, they have it all.  My son was immediately disappointed that we didn't choose to put the gift card to use on a new air hockey table - he was quick to point out that the price was not only a good deal but they were offering free shipping as well (he's learning!).  Liv discovered Halloween Costumes for the pups, who were immediately thrilled that we decided to give the giftcard to one of you instead, and I, well, I won't fill you in on just how easy it is to get lost among 2,198 bakeware items...

Here are Liv's housekeeping rules:
  • You must be from the United States or Canada (actually that's CSN's rule)
  • To enter the giveaway we are not asking for anything other than a comment letting us know about a food that "helps you Liv Life in a yummier way!" (Liv's idea!)
  • We would love and appreciate a "like" on our Liv Life Facebook page, a link back to this post any way, or a sign up for our RSS or email feeds, but none of those are necessary to enter.
  • The contest will close as of noon, Pacific Standard Time, Sunday, October 10, 2010.
  • All names will be placed in our favorite mixing bowl, stirred with a wooden spoon and chosen at random by Liv.
  • We will then send your contact information to Jamie at CSN and he will send you a $45 giftcard!
That's it!  Thanks for participating, and Liv and I are looking forward to your comments.

  1. Hi Liv, Your Frozen Banana Pops look so yummy! I'm really impressed with your work!! It’s wonderful to have a daughter or son who shares their Mother’s joy of cooking! You’re making some great memories with your Mom and I can tell that she is very proud of you!

What helps me Liv Life in a yummier way is being able to share time in the kitchen with my children! Everything we make together is always yummier!!

I'm proud to say that my 11 year old daughter loves to help me in the kitchen too and has become a very good baker. She just made her first fondant birthday cake, for her sisters 20th birthday party...I'll be posting pictures on my blog later today!

I really enjoyed your recipe and article! Keep up the good work♥

I would love to check out the CSN bakeware for my daughter! I follow you in RSS already and will "like" you on FB

  2. A food that keeps me happy about Living life is definitely chocolate. Whether I am making cupcakes or brownies or cupcake balls or bites, it is always involving some kind of chocolate.

I had banana pieces dipped in chocolate yesterday. :)

  3. Liv is obviously a very talented young lady! In a previous life, I would have agreed with her that sugar was da bomb. Still is, I just can't eat it anymore ;) Chocolate is pretty high on my list too.

  4. What a great guest post! A budding cook and writer as well as a dancer. You have a very talented daughter! Right now it's those heirloom tomatoes and late harvest peaches at the farmers' market helping me live a yummier life.

  5. YAY! I'm so glad you did a guest post, Liv! These pops not only look beautiful but they look like something that I would want to make myself. I've had a sweet tooth for as long as I can remember. In fact, when I was around 5 years old I remember sneaking sugar cubes off the table when we would go to restaurants. :) My mom always wondered why I got increasingly talkative as the meal progressed! I love sugar. Used in a creative way, such as these chocolate banana pops, is just a huge bonus!

  6. What a great guest post! Always good to see children in the kitchen. One of my favorites in the kitchen that makes me happy is olive oil - I use it in everything and as a sub for butter whenever possible.

  8. Great job, Liv! How NOT to make everybody happy with this pops! They are adorable. As per what helps me Liv life in a yummier way...oh gosh...so many things but I think pastry cream is the best. Whether it's a cake filled with it, a pastry, or just a little cup with a cookie I sure feel my life is better with pastry cream!

  9. Liv, what a wonderful guest post and recipe for banana pops! Strawberries help me live life happier. I simply love them, plain, on peanut butter on a whole wheat English muffin, mixed with other fruit, in oatmeal, or in iced tea, et al. I could eat them, for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and have many times.

  10. Liv, thanks for this recipe! One of my favorite things that I miss from home are hand dipped chocolate frozen bananas with nuts from a homemade chocolate shop near me in NH called Sanborn's Candies, yum! Something that helps me Liv Life better is certainly peanut butter, in anything! Oh, and those little Dove dark chocolate candies with cute messages inside are always a nice pick-me-up! Thank you!

  11. helps you Liv Life in a yummier way - I'm not a kitchen whiz unfortunately but I do make these awesome raspberry tarts. The only thing I can make but it's so delicious that I even surprise myself. It's actually my grandma's recipe but I'm proud that I can pull it off and then enjoy it by eating it on a simple day :)

  15. Cinnamon for sure: in a pinch, I sprinkle some over some Greek yogurt, add a little honey, and it's like baklava yogurt. And I even sprinkle a wee bit in Middle Eastern-style meat dishes: yum!

  16. Awesome banana pops! They definitely look like they wouldn't last long in our house! I think everything I cook, whether a failure or success, helps me liv life! After all, it's all about the lessons we learn throught them all, right?!

  17. Without a doubt, good quality spices help me liv life in a delicious way. I highly recommend Penzeys spices (or Spice House). Soooooo worth the teeny bit extra you might pay for them. Everything I cook tastes so much better and leftovers are more likely to be eaten, making the quality spices actually easier on my budget.

Tell Liv that she did a great job as guest blogger. Maybe someday my daughter will write on my blog. The food that helps us live life to the fullest is butter. It makes all my baking better and is so good on pancakes with maple syrup.

  29. You have some great recipes! I could sure use some of those Banana Pops right about now! Actually, bananas are one of my staples -- I love them -- but they have to be just barely ripe. Don't like them after they develop any brown spots. Everyone thinks I'm nuts!

  38. I would have to say that it's definitely oatmeal that lets me "Liv life in a yummier way"! It's just so versatile- in summer I like to do overnight oats and eat it cold, in the winter I make pumpkin oatmeal and get to pretend that I'm eating pumpkin pie for breakfast :).

And these banana pops look great! I love bananas (second only to oatmeal), and adding chocolate to them just makes things that much better.
